Andrew Williams
Medical Social Worker
Originally from Morgantown, WV, Andrew Williams is proud of his Appalachian heritage, which has deeply shaped his identity and approach to compassionate care. As a dedicated Medical Social Worker at Amari Home Health and Hospice, Andrew brings nearly two decades of experience in hospice and bereavement support.
Andrew earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees in social work from West Virginia University. His passion for end-of-life care led him to pursue specialized training in pediatric hospice and childrenβs grief work through The Dougy Center. With a unique background that includes experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant and even training as a stuntman, Andrew has developed a remarkable ability to remain calm under pressure and communicate effectivelyβboth invaluable skills in his role as a social worker.
Since beginning his career in hospice in 2006 as a volunteer and CNA, Andrew has dedicated himself to guiding patients and families through one of the most challenging times in their lives. He believes his role is to be a steady presence, helping families navigate the complexities of illness with empathy and expertise. He provides guidance on disease progression, caregiving challenges, advanced care planning, and emotional support, approaching difficult conversations with empathy and understanding.
Andrew is passionate about educating families on the true benefits of hospice, dispelling the misconception that hospice is only for the final days of life. He emphasizes that when hospice is introduced early, it not only improves quality of life but can even extend it. Above all, he believes hospice is about helping people live fully in the time they have, with dignity, comfort, and meaningful connections.
Outside of work, Andrew takes a holistic approach to self-care. His family is his greatest source of support, and he recharges through exercise, meditation, reading, and music. A lifelong martial artist, he has trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts for nearly 30 years, finding strength and balance in both disciplines.
